How to make a natural flea and tick spray for cats

One week after I turned 3-month-old kitten, Momma and I went to the vet for my second vaccination. After my vaccination, the vet advised Momma to use a monthly “commercial” flea prevention and treatment for cats.

When we got home, Momma applied it to me. It worked fine but Momma complained about its strong and potent chemical smell. Momma asked me if I was fine with the scent because she wasn’t. Well, I wasn’t but I didn’t know how to show it.

One month later, after applying the second treatment to me, Momma complained about being nauseous due to the same chemical smell. Then, Momma said to me loud and clear, “I swear to God that those flea prevention and treatment sh*ts would kill not only the fleas but also us in the end!”

“We are going to look for some non-chemical-smelling flea prevention and treatments for you. Green and natural ones, please!” Momma added.

So, Momma and I started searching the Internet for more information about green and natural flea prevention and treatment alternatives for cats. Fortunately, we found many of those natural alternatives.

We have decided that an equal dilution (1:1 ratio) between Apple Cider Vinegar and (plain) warm water is the best alternative for her and me. Not only it smells fine but it is also yummy when I lick on it.

Before we start with the simple tutorial on how to make a natural flea and tick spray for cats (and dogs), let us remind you that Apple Cider Vinegar should NEVER be fed to a pet that is sensitive or allergic to yeast.

Apart from that, there are several benefits of diluted Apple Cider Vinegar aka ACV for your cats or dogs:

  • ACV can be used as a natural remedy to prevent fleas and ticks
  • ACV can be used as a daily health supplement
  • ACV can be used as an ear treatment
  • AVC can be used as a relief for various skin problems

Let us also remind you, that this Apple Cider Vinegar spray will only work for prevention purposes. So please do NOT use this spray if and when:

  • You are already dealing with a serious flea and tick infestation on your pet because this spray might not be sufficient enough to work properly.
  • Your cats are obligated to use a potent treatment before traveling internationally because this spray will not conform to certain international travel regulations.

For those who are already dealing with flea infestation or planning to travel internationally, Momma recommends using the following treatments as follows:

NOW, without further ado let’s get started with this homemade natural flea and tick spray for cats:

What you need:

How you do it:

  1. Check if the spray bottle is clean
  2. Pour the 250 ml (about 8.5oz) Apple Cider Vinegar into the spray bottle
  3. Pour the 250 ml (about 8.5 oz) warm water into the spray bottle
  4. Shake the spray bottle thoroughly

Now, you are finished and the spray is ready to be used. So, good luck spraying it daily on both your cats and dogs ðŸ™‚ At first, Momma had to run after me in an attempt to spray it on my gorgeous body. However, once I realized it was yummy, I was fine being sprayed with it.

Additionally, you can paste a sticker or a DYMO label on the spray bottle with some text like “Apple Cider Vinegar or ACV + Water” to separate it from other spray bottles you might have. But you can also use a color indication as Momma does. For instance, our spray bottle with the redhead means our AVC+Water.

How about you? Would you prefer using natural or commercial flea prevention & tick treatment? Let us know in the comment section below. Thank you!
